Thanks to Thom for sharing another meme; I love these things!

1. Do you feel that you need to keep repeating yourself when talking to a particular person?

Well, considering that the Amazing Egyptian Dude has lost a significant portion of his hearing and isn't exactly consistent about wearing his hearing aids, I spend an inordinate amount of time repeating myself when talking to him. One of these days he will wear his hearing aids on a regular basis, I just know it!

2. It's July. Do you have anything special planned?

Ummm . . . I consider living pretty doggone special. That's about all that I have planned for the month.

3. Who is your big celebrity crush?

I'm not really into celebrities, and certainly not enough to have a big crush on one.

4. Tell us about a local restaurant you are sure we'd love.

Mas' Islamic Chinese restaurant in Anaheim, California, is our favorite place for dining out. The best thing about this restaurant is that it is always packed with patrons that make up a mini United Nations. In addition to the Muslims who fill the place because the owner, a Muslim from China, follows our dietary laws and doesn't serve pork, you'll find Jews who keep Kosher dining beside California hippie types who are seated next to a group of college kids whose antics entertain the elderly couple sitting across the aisle. I have never ever been to the place when it wasn't, at the very least, nearly packed to the rafters.

5. Tell us about the shyest person that you deal with regularly.

None of the people whom I deal with regularly are shy -- at least not when they are around me!

6. What is your vision of heaven and hell?

One is good and the other ought to be avoided?

7. What is your neighborhood like?

Like most neighborhoods in Southern California -- filled with single family dwellings that have green lawns and cars in their driveways.

8. What's your favorite cook-out food?

Shish-kebab or steak -- I can't decide which I like better.

9. When was the last time that you saw fireworks?

Disneyland is just down the street from my home, so I see fireworks every night at 9:35 during the week, and a second display on Saturday and Sunday. God bless the Mouse House!

Heatwave

Welcome to Saturday: 9 . What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Here we go!

1. It’s July. How has the weather been where you are?
So far, the weather in Southern California has been bearable.

2. What is the best way for you to beat the heat?
In the house, curtains drawn, a/c going, glass of iced tea in hand, and feet up.

3. “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.” Do you buy that?
Humidity makes a bearable temperature unbearable. I live in a desert climate and know heat but when I visit family in Southeast Texas and Florida during the summer, I am miserable from the humidity. I can leave 90 degrees plus weather in California, go to Texas where the temperature is the same but humidity is 70% or more, and I wanna die!

4. Do you like hot tubs or saunas?
I don't really like either one. Too much heat for me.

5. What’s the hottest you’ve ever been?
Last summer, I was in Arizona when the temperature peaked at 112 degrees. Add the 2-3 degrees that my anti-seizure medication increases my body temperature, and I'd say that I've been pretty doggone hot.

6. How many times do you hit the beach in the summer?
I burn way too easily to go to the beach in the summer.

7. When you were a kid, what did you do in the summer?
We took an annual road trip across country. The rest of the summer was spent reading Harlequin romances with my mom.

8. Surfing. Have you ever gotten on a surfboard? Body surf?
Although the Beach Boys are from my hometown, I've never been surfing.

9. What’s your favorite summer song?

Crazy Sam hosts the Saturday: 9 meme. And since I don't have a Saturday meme to help keep me posting on a daily basis, I've decided to take up the challenge. Here's what the meme is all about:

What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Let's get started. . .

1. Where were you when you heard that Michael Jackson died?

I was at home, sitting in front of my laptop, doing homework when the announcement interrupted regular CNN programming.

2. How do you think that he will be remembered?

I wish that I could say Michael will be remembered only for the legacy of music he left to the world; however, I tend to agree with Deepak Chopra who notes in his beautiful piece, A Tribute to My Friend, Michael Jackson, that the world will remember the artist as much for his erratic and often strange behavior as it will for his compassion and talent.

3. What was your favorite Jackson tune?

When he was part of the Jackson 5, my favorite song is "Dancing Machine."

As a solo artist, my favorite is "Man in the Mirror."

4. Did you watch the original Charlie’s Angels?

Yes, I did. It wasn't a show that I watched regularly, though.

5. Did someone you know have that poster of Farrah?

OMG, yes! I think just about every boy at my high school had the Farrah poster.

6. Did you consider her battle with cancer heroic?

I think that we focus too much on celebrities and when they battle horrific diseases like cancer, we call it "heroic." Farrah fought valiantly to save her life; however, I wouldn't go so far as to say that makes her battle any more "heroic" than the ones that thousands of others continue to fight against cancer.

7. Were you a fan of The Tonight Show Starring Johnnie Carson?

I've never been able to stay awake long enough to watch any of the late night talk shows.

8. Did you like Ed McMahon on the show?

I never saw him on the show.

9. What else will you remember McMahon for?

I will remember Ed McMahon most for his last appearance on the Larry King Show a couple of years ago. The image of this dignified elderly man, who I knew best from the days when he hosted Star Search, explaining that his home was in foreclosure, absolutely broke my heart. Here was a man who, after giving the entertainment industry his life, was now too old to find the work he needed in order to pay his bills. I found it utterly shameful, and the image of Mr. McMahon looking so frail and vulnerable is forever etched in my memory.
